She is a fresh new voice in the literary world and, if "Shattered City" is a valid barometer of her talent, one to be joyfully reckoned with in the future. On the one hand, this is sort of appropriate for a book that takes place in a monastery and is about Odd trying to take a break from his stresses. In 19th century London, caracoling (making half turns to the right and the left) was probably as common and as well known as `stepping on the gas' is today.
